The short answer

Under IDR 20 million a month buys a 1-bedroom villa or apartment in Bali, and occasionally a small 2-bedroom: on 6 October 2026, 43 of 554 priced partner rentals asked IDR 20 million or less — 31 one-bedrooms, 11 two-bedrooms and one three-bedroom.
Under IDR 15 million the choice narrows to 11 listings, every one a 1-bedroom and six of them apartments, in Ubud, Seminyak, Seseh, Canggu and Pererenan. Only three asked IDR 10 million or less, all small 1-bedrooms in Ubud.
The cheapest areas for a 1-bedroom were Seminyak (median IDR 16 million, 7 listings), Uluwatu (IDR 19.5 million, 6) and Seseh (IDR 20 million, 5); Canggu’s 1-bedroom median was IDR 30 million across 51.
Below about IDR 10 million a month the market moves to guesthouse rooms and kos — rooms in a managed compound — which agency listings like these barely cover; finding one usually means asking on the ground.

1-bedroom rent by area

For a single person or a couple the 1-bedroom is the budget unit, and it varies by area more than the 2-bedroom does. Seminyak’s low median comes from a run of apartment units listed together by one agency, so treat it as what an apartment costs there rather than a villa.

What gets cheaper, and what it costs you

The cheapest listings are small: the three at IDR 10 million or less in Ubud were 17 m², 50 m² and 51 m² of building, and the 1-bedroom apartments in Seminyak and Seseh mostly 46–60 m². A shared pool rather than a private one, and a compound rather than a stand-alone villa, are the usual trades.

Two things to know about this data. First, most partner rentals carry no price at all — only 554 of 1,533 did — so the cheap end may be thinner here than on the ground. Second, two of the 43, in Tabanan at IDR 20 million, are titled as villas for sale; they are counted as the agency lists them, but a listing whose title and price disagree is worth a question before a viewing.
