Medians of the priced villa rentals of Baliestate’s partner agencies on 6 October 2026, converted at Bank Indonesia’s 7 October 2026 midpoint of IDR 17,910 per dollar. Many Bali villas are advertised in dollars, but Bank Indonesia Regulation 17/3/PBI/2015 requires the contract to settle in rupiah, so a dollar quote is a promise about an exchange rate.

For up to 60 days, the e-VOA; up to 180 days, a C1 visit visa (IDR 1,000,000 for 60 days, extendable to 180); for a year, a KITAS. The E33G is for people employed by a company established outside Indonesia, which suits remote work for a US employer; the E33F is the one-year retirement permit, and the Second Home visa runs five years (the E33E version from age 55). Fees as the long-stay visa guide checked them on 7 October 2026.
Bali is 12 hours ahead of New York in US summer and 13 in winter, and 15 to 16 hours ahead of the West Coast: a US working day falls in Bali’s night.
The IRS’s rule is that US citizens and resident aliens living abroad report their worldwide income, and the foreign earned income exclusion and the foreign tax credit are the main ways to avoid paying tax twice. A US person with foreign financial accounts above USD 10,000 in total at any point in the year files an FBAR with FinCEN, and larger holdings can also need Form 8938.
An Indonesian bank account, needed for little until you hold a KITAS, counts towards those totals. So does a rupiah balance held for the Second Home visa.
Indonesia counts you resident after more than 183 days in a rolling 12 months, or from the issue of a residence permit valid for more than 183 days, as several tax advisers read PMK-18/2021. A resident reports worldwide income, though foreign income is generally taxed only when remitted into Indonesia or enjoyed there. The US–Indonesia tax treaty sets out which country taxes what when both claim you.
At IDR 17,910 to the dollar on 7 October 2026, the median villa rent listed by Baliestate’s partner agencies was about USD 1,420 a month for a 1-bedroom, USD 2,230 for a 2-bedroom and USD 3,070 for a 3-bedroom, before electricity.
Yes. US citizens can enter on the e-VOA, stay up to 180 days on a C1 visit visa, and live there for a year or more on a KITAS such as the E33G remote-worker permit or the five-year Second Home visa.
You still file. The US taxes its citizens on worldwide income wherever they live; the foreign earned income exclusion and foreign tax credit reduce double taxation, and foreign accounts above USD 10,000 in total are reported on an FBAR.
Not on a visit visa. The E33G remote-worker KITAS is for people employed by a company established outside Indonesia.
