Which visa for how long

For a stay of up to 60 days, the e-VOA; up to 180 days, a C1 visit visa (IDR 1,000,000 for 60 days, extendable to 180); for a year, a KITAS — the E33G remote-worker permit for income from abroad, the E33F retirement permit, or the five-year Second Home visa (the E33E version from age 55). Fees are the immigration directorate’s as the long-stay visa guide checked them on 7 October 2026.

Remote work for a French employer or clients on a visit visa is not what those visas are for: they prohibit selling goods or services or receiving pay in Indonesia. The E33G is the route intended for it.

Paying rent from a euro account

Bank Indonesia Regulation 17/3/PBI/2015 requires transactions in Indonesia to be settled in rupiah, so the contract should state a rupiah rent even if the landlord quotes euros. Compare what lands in rupiah: banks commonly add 2–5% to the exchange rate, while transfer services show their fee and use a rate close to the mid-market one.

Most Indonesian banks open a personal account only with a KITAS or KITAP, so for a stay of a few months the rent usually goes by international transfer to the owner’s or the agency’s account, against a receipt.

Taxes in France, and in Indonesia

France taxes its tax residents on their worldwide income, and whether you stay a French resident depends on French criteria such as where your home, your main activity and the centre of your economic interests are, not only on days spent abroad. Leaving France means giving your new address to your last public finance centre, which impots.gouv.fr says can be done online in your Espace Finances publiques, and the departure year has its own tax return rules.

Indonesia counts you resident after more than 183 days in a rolling 12 months, or from the day a residence permit valid for more than 183 days is issued, as several tax advisers read the rules. The France–Indonesia tax treaty decides which country taxes what when both claim you; take advice in both countries.

Where to look

Baliestate’s listing and area pages are also in French at /fr/, for example the Canggu rentals at /fr/rent/canggu; its guides are in English only. Renters in the housing groups named Canggu, Pererenan, Seseh, Uluwatu and Ubud most often between 28 August and 25 October 2026.

A request that states budget per month in rupiah, area, bedrooms, move-in date and length of stay gets matching villas back; the guide to finding a long-term rental sets out where to send it.

Common questions

How much does it cost to rent a villa in Bali in euros?

At IDR 20,133 to the euro on 7 October 2026, the median villa rent listed by Baliestate’s partner agencies was about EUR 1,270 a month for a 1-bedroom, EUR 1,990 for a 2-bedroom and EUR 2,730 for a 3-bedroom, before electricity.

Do French citizens need a visa for Bali?

French citizens can use the e-VOA, IDR 500,000 for 30 days and extendable once. For up to 180 days use a C1 visit visa; for a year or more, a KITAS.

Can I work for a French company while living in Bali?

Not on a visit visa, which prohibits receiving pay in Indonesia. The E33G remote-worker KITAS is for people employed by a company established outside Indonesia.

Do I still pay tax in France if I live in Bali?

It depends on whether you remain a French tax resident under French criteria, and on the France–Indonesia tax treaty if Indonesia also counts you as resident. Take advice in both countries before a long stay.
