Which visa for how long

For up to 60 days, the e-VOA; up to 180 days, a C1 visit visa (IDR 1,000,000 for 60 days, extendable to 180); for a year, a KITAS — the E33G for employment by a company established outside Indonesia, the E33F retirement permit, or the five-year Second Home visa (the E33E version from age 55). Fees as the long-stay visa guide checked them on 7 October 2026.

Bali is seven hours ahead of Berlin and Amsterdam in the European winter and six in summer, so a European working day runs from mid-afternoon to late evening in Bali.

Deregistering at home

In Germany, registration follows your home: when you move out of a German home and do not take a new one, you deregister at the local registration office. In the Netherlands, the government asks you to deregister from the personal records database (BRP) at your municipality if you will live abroad for more than eight months within a year, even if you keep a home there.

Deregistering has knock-on effects on health insurance, pensions and benefits that differ by country and by insurer, so check them before you leave rather than from Bali.

Which country taxes you

Germany and the Netherlands tax their residents on worldwide income, and keeping a home or your main ties there can keep you resident even while you live in Bali. Indonesia counts you resident after more than 183 days in a rolling 12 months, or from the issue of a residence permit valid for more than 183 days, as several tax advisers read PMK-18/2021.

When both countries claim you, the tax treaty between your country and Indonesia decides. Take advice in both before a long stay, because the answer depends on where your home and ties are, not only on days.

Searching from Europe

Baliestate’s listing and area pages are also in German at /de/, for example the Canggu rentals at /de/rent/canggu; its guides are in English only. Rent a month or two first: a monthly price costs more, but it lets you learn the area before a year is paid up front.

Common questions

How much does it cost to rent a villa in Bali in euros?

At IDR 20,133 to the euro on 7 October 2026, the median villa rent listed by Baliestate’s partner agencies was about EUR 1,270 a month for a 1-bedroom, EUR 1,990 for a 2-bedroom and EUR 2,730 for a 3-bedroom, before electricity.

Do Germans need a visa for Bali?

German citizens can use the e-VOA, IDR 500,000 for 30 days, extendable once. For up to 180 days a C1 visit visa, and for a year or more a KITAS.

Do I have to deregister in the Netherlands if I move to Bali?

The Dutch government asks you to deregister from the BRP at your municipality if you will live abroad for more than eight months within a year, even if you keep a home there.

Will I pay tax in Germany and in Indonesia?

Possibly in both, until the Germany–Indonesia tax treaty decides where you are resident. Keeping a home in Germany can keep you a German resident; a KITAS can make you an Indonesian one. Take advice in both countries.
